  • Overview

    Position Summary:

    Join an AmeriCorps Youth Ambassador Crew working on community engagement programs in Albuquerque. Serve your community as part of a team while working with other AmeriCorps members!

     

    Position Purpose:

    This part-time ambassador position is focused on community engagement, community outreach, and environmental education.  The crew will develop outreach and education material, coordinate programs with schools and community groups, deliver curriculum, and engage community members in service events on public lands, with a special focus on Valle de Oro National Wildlife (VDO) Refuge & other public open space in the Albuquerque Area. Supervisor will have additional outreach responsibilities for RMYC and VDO. 

    Crew Schedule: Part-time, approximately 16 hours/week average, including afternoon hours and weekend work. Schedule may vary from week to week.

      

    Date/Benefits:

    This is an AmeriCorps position and corpsmembers will receive a living allowance throughout the season, as well as a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of the term of service. This award can be used to pay tuition at most colleges, universities, or trade schools, or to pay off student loans already acquired. Corpsmembers are also eligible for health insurance during their term of service.

    • Comply with all RMYC and AmeriCorps rules and policies and avoid any prohibited activities as described in the member contract.

    Qualifications

    • 17 – 25 years old as of program start date
    • U.S. Citizen/National/Permanent Resident
    • Strong work ethic
    • Able to commit to the entire term of service: [Sept-May]
    • Able to work in supervised environment
    • Day crew: able to commute daily to/from the crew meeting location

     

    Physical/Environmental/Emotional Requirements:


    In performing the essential functions of this position, crew members will need to:

    • Lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly.
    • Frequently traverse uneven terrain, or sit in a vehicle/classroom.
    • Read written materials, write, and communicate with others individually and in group settings.
    • Work primarily in the outdoors and in all weather conditions.
